At Fort Santiago

[gallery]

One time, Mikoy and I decided to visit Fort Santiago. Nakakahiya man but haven't been there. So off we go!

Fort Santiago (Spanish: Fuerza de Santiago) is a defense fortress built for Spanish conquistador, Miguel López de Legazpi. The fort is part of the structures of the walled city of Intramuros, in Manila, Philippines.

The location of Fort Santiago was once the site of the palace and kingdom of Rajah Sulayman, a Muslim chieftain of pre-hispanic Manila. It was destroyed by the conquistadors upon arriving in 1570, encountering several battles with the Islamic natives. The Spaniards destroyed the native settlements and erected Fuerza de Santiago in 1571.

The first fort was made out of log structures and earth. Most of it was destroyed in the Spanish-Chinese War of (1574-1575), by invaders of Chinese pirates who besieged the area. The Spaniards fought a fierce conflict and eventually drove the pirates out. In 1589 the fort was constructed with hard stone and finished in 1592. It became the main fort for travels and spice trade to the Americas and Europe for 333 years. The famous Manila Galleon trade to Acapulco, Mexico started sailing from Fuerza de Santiago.

Read more : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Santiago

Situated at the mouth of the Pasig River, which runs into Manila Bay. Fort Santiago has been restored and you will find most of the areas preserved. You should visit the Rizal Shrine where you can see the museum - where you can find a replica of his prison cell. Love this one.

If you like to go picnic, you can also do that there. There are tables in the area where families and friends can gather. Then after, you can try riding the 'calesa' (this i find amusing cuz its like you are in Paris - as if I've already been to Paris or New York)

I enjoyed that short 'field trip.' We made sure that we will try to visit other places too like the National Museum and even Manila Zoo. haha. But seriously, we will.

We've seen many tourists there, and it seems that they're enjoying the sights. I just hope that the people will try to avoid littering as we've seen some trash in the area. Places like this should be preserved.

where's the corn in the beef?

My fave breakfast is corned beef with rice, even sa Jollivee this is what I order.  So how did it get its name?

Long time ago, the Irish use salt in preserving their meat.  The salt used, in pellet form, is called 'corn' as its size is that of a corn kernel.

:(

This is my status both in ym and in our office MOC. I don't want to go into details. Let's just say that thing's aren't so bright in this side of my tiny planet.

I decided to blog right now to keep me sane. I am trying hard (real hard at times though it may not show) that I am in control but sometimes even if you wanted to move your ass right, your moves just go puft.

I am not in trouble. We are not in trouble. I am just probably....insane. This is all about a lil freedom... that's all.

pink pepper date

Mikoy and I had dinner date last Thursday (10th) at Pink Pepper in RP. We haven't tried this one yet so since its the time of the month (not Period silly!)

Ambience is just ok...kasi naman kami lang andun. hehe. Probably its too early? Dunno. Pink Pepper is a French Restaurant...thus this:

[gallery]

Masabi lang. hehe.

Mikoy ordered the Pink Club House - their version of the club house with ham, cheddar cheese and omelette. Of course, we forgot to ask the lady about the condiments. Mikoy doesn't eat mushroom, tomato, onions, cucumber....only the lettuce. As for me, I had Spaghetti Bolognese - Buttered spaghetti topped with classic herb tomato beef sauce. We also had the Fried Potato Wedges with cayenne pepper and some herbs with tartar sauce ata yun. They have live bands on Fridays (accdg to the lady in black na parang wala sa wisyo)

For dessert, uhmm I forgot. Did we have dessert?

profiteroles con SB

Our encounter with profiteroles was at Starbucks Harbour Centre.   Since I do not know what they are, I asked Barista Wynz what kind of creatures are they.  Seems she also do not know.   She consulted their food manual but it wasn't there.

[gallery]

Rare sightings as profiteroles are not available at all SB branches.  Still that's Ok as there is nothing to rave about them.   They're just overrated cream puffs haha. I would have wanted them to be sweeter, 'coz it seemed it's all whipped cream in the middle.

McDo e-commerce

[gallery]

While walking towards this McDo branch, told Sam parang  sa HK.  Hmmm maybe because of the 'air' at MOA, parang ganun ang ambiance.

Pagpasok, it's just the same McDo.

(this branch is at the E-commerce Bldg --near Taste Asia.  Open 24 hours)

Step in Renewing Car Registration

[caption id="attachment_824" align="alignright" width="300" caption="beware fixers!"]beware fixers![/caption]

There is only one step in renewing car reg-- get a fixer haha.   Well, I dunno if you can call him a fixer, since there's nothing to 'fix'.  Basta these are boys loitering at the LTO office to help you with your transaction.

So when I went to Window 1, I was assigned to Jeff.  We first went to the smoke emission test area (ngek P400 petot na sya!) since he said they are in a rush and it's about to close (coz it's past 4pm na).  The guy at the emission center asked me to turn off the engine while Jeff was getting the engine number (dunno what it's called).    Then the cashier asked me for the bayad.

I said "tapos na? hindi pa yata tapos, patay yung makina e."  The cashier said "tapos na po"  Huh?  I gave a puzzled look and she just grinned.  She said they just took a photo of the car's plate number with their crew.  Huh again?  P400 for a photo of Blew?!?!

Tapos was brought to the Insurance Area.  Was asked to pay P661, e when I checked, this was the price pala for small trucks.  As if Elf si Blew.  Dapat mga P610 lang e.

comment ulet:  Mga corrupt kayo lahat!

So niwey, was asked to wait na lang for my name to be called sa cashier.  After a few minutes, a girl from the inside called me and asked for my payment.   She said she'll make 'singit' sa cashier so that I wouldn't have to wait.  Ngek!  So ok.

After mga 2 mins, she came back with the stickers and yun na yun.  I thanked Jeff and gave him bente.  Total experience time was 27 minutes!

busboys to the rescue

[gallery]

Parang gusto kong pag bibigyan ng pera bilang reward nila (as if!).

Naka sweat shirt, jogging pants at sunvisor pa!

Sana hindi ako ma- time space warp tulad nya

Did you know?

These are called TRAFFIC VESTS. We often see these worn by traffic aides, policemen at times...

Mikoy and I were at RP one time, and I didn't know what they're called so we did ask. :)

Open and Weird

It's soooo cold lately. Mom and I don't use the A/C anymore even when I'm sleeping in my room. Mom opens a window at night instead plus the electric fan. At first ayaw ko talaga mag-open ng window. The excuse that I'm giving mom - baka pumasok ang lamok, ipis, insekto whatever. Kasi ako ang malapit sa window noh. Baka gapangan ako ng ipis. Eeewwww. But honestly and weird eto talaga ang excuse ko - baka kasi may makapasok na aswang or manananggal. hahaha.

I know, I know. There was one time di ba na nabalita, there was manananggal in Tondo? Hindi pa gawa ang bahay namin noon but I do have my own room na rin. Ako yung nasa last na room, eh yung room ko meron windows (jalousy windows pa nun but nilagyan ng screen ng daddy para di pumasok mga insekto nga) so pag nakahiga ako at mejo open ang windows ko kitang-kita ko ang langit. That time, nabasag yung 2 jalousy ko sa bandang baba so kitang-kita talaga. Kaya paranoid ako na baka sumilip iyung manananggal at sirain yung bintana at screen ko. Ang lakas kaya nila di ba? Kaya lagi ata akong puyat noon. Always on the watch sa peeping manananggal. Those were the times na una kong naramdaman na may mga iba tayong nakakasama sa mundo na ito na hindi nakikita at nararamdaman ng kahit sino. I am very much aware that there are "small people" inside my room that often plays at night. I was in elementary at that time.

I have so many "weird" experiences during those times (kaya lalo siguro akong naging weird haha) Eto pa.

I am not claustrophobic like M but I just don't want them open. Weird noh?

bubusok

BUBUSOK roughly parang bumubuga ng usok, or is it sizzling?  anyway I really don't know what it means, but Doc A, my friend, says it's something like that.

[gallery]

their menu is mga tapsi or goto lugaw.  the Goto is pass-able ang taste, except it's not that hot (kala mo nga cold lugaw lang e heheh).  Yung tokwa't-baboy had a twist.  The baboy-- instead na boiled lang, is coated with flour and is fried.

so if you are in the san fernando pampanga area and is craving for lugaw, pde na rin yung bubusok. it's at the shell station along olongapo-gapan road (going subic side)

belatedly bday dinner at stars and stripes

and so after lunch with my family, I had dinner with Sam at Stars and Stripes at MOA.

[gallery]

(sam pls supply menu heheh) >> [sam:i forgot!]

I liked the burger, though medyo dry.  Also the pasta, coz it's cheesy.  The wings-- never mind hahah.

We finished everything.  I was super bundat na, but can't have any leftovers, bawal.

belatedly bday lunch at abe

My bday lunch at Abe Trinoma (3rd level) with family.  My parents loved the food, haven't seen them eat this much.  To think mudra just wanted lumpia, but devoured the kare-kare even if she's not fond of meat hehe.

[gallery]

Winner ang sinigang!  Soup only, viand already!  Also the karekare, the best karekare after my lola's.   I did not like the sisig that much, because it was not served on a hot plate.  I prefer it to be a bit on the crunchy and burnt side heheh.

We also ordered lumpia with grabanzoz and another lumpia-- sariwa.  For dessert we had turon.    The rice nga pala is unlimited (P60) and just the way I like it-- buhaghag and mainit.

The food is masarap, price is a bit steep (buti the two oldies got 20% senior disc).  The place is a bit small, considering it's always full and their clientele are primarily families or big groups.

Need to improve on service though.  It took a while for our food to arrive (we were hungry already!).  And had to follow-up for like 3x for our dessert.   We got our bill after waiting around 10mins (baka kasi manual accounting sila) .

overall would love to go back.  beb i think abe's better than their sister resto bistro remedios, so let's binge here after our diet heheh

Malunggay

Moringa or popularly known as Malunggay here in the Philippines is said to be the "miracle vegetable", one of the world's most useful plants. According to Dr. Lydia Marero of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute, its leaves are excellent source of Vits A and B, and minerals such as calcium and iron. It is even an excellent source of protein, being higher than the amino acid pattern of Food and Agriculture Organization-reference protein, yet contains very low fat and carbohydrates.  The leaves are incomparable as a source of the sulfur-containing amino acids methionine and cystine, often the natural minerals humans lack.

Malunggay Bread? Eww

So why am I blogging about Malunggay? It is because Mikoy is persuading me to eat this to feel better. I know all the stuffs it will do if i eat this miracle veggie but I am really not fond of eating veggies. Including this one. 'Wag matigas ang ulo, birthday month ko pa.'

Fine. 18 days to go and I am free. Basta ako February and March!

Feast day of Sto. Niño

This coming Sunday, January 18 is the Feast day of Sto. Niño. If you are a full pledged and true blue kid of Tondo, you should know better....know better than going out either a day before or the feast day itself. Some nearby streets are closed for the "palaro", ati-atihans, contests (singing contest, gay pageants, battle of the bands, etc) This is celebrated every third Sunday of January.

I will post again next week on this.

How have you been?

That's what I asked myself lately? Sometimes or most of the time, you get so engrossed with work and your life and love that you miss things around you.

Just recently, I told Heart (my bestfriend in Cavite) that I miss her. I miss the sleepovers, the exchange of letters, the pager messages and texts, the emails, her family as well as the fights.  But even if we don't talk and see each other now, I still see us as friends...

Also told M that I miss her too. I miss those times that I will stay here in the office 'til 7 or 8 just so we can chat, update each other of things, I remember the fights, the disappointments, the encouragements....

Geez this dry cough and (oftentimes attack of asthma) is not good. Either I become too sentimental, melancholic or whatever.

Yesterday, Mikoy said that mistress was asking me something like 'what are the requirements in renewing a passport, then Mikoy kidded, 'ano ba iyun information?'  Then mistress said that It seems I know things (sort of a Ms Know-It-All) Uhmm, should I be offended? Nah. Am sorry friend, fortunately, I just know the answers to your questions *wink wink*

I am now contemplating on my next paragraph but words elude me. It doesn't seem right when you feel like writing, and you really really wanted to write something more....meaningful. I haven't finish the Project J, hopefully before this month ends (but I doubt) I don't want to push myself too hard on this. Especially now that inspiration and words fail me.

Then, I digress.

I am not alone

Mikoy sent me this article and I just read it this morning since I was not around yesterday. I am sick... Anyhoo, I was grinning while reading the article. I saw myself in Pam.

cough. cough.

Here's the article:

How the DS Lite killed my social life

Philippine Daily Inquirer

CHRISTMAS Day. At the back of an SUV. My friends and I had decided to drive to Tagaytay for dinner. While our car braved through the traffic, my friends were laughing and shrieking about Jiff's exploits with someone who had a very inappropriate piercing.

cough. cough.

So you see, Mikoy and my other friends should understand where I'm coming from when I have my DS with me. Saving a princess and finishing a recipe with Mama with terrific and perfect score is definitely not easy. That's why I got pissed when it encountered a virus (accdg to Linc) last week, the reason why Mario Party and MySims Kingdom never made it IN my DS. Aww too sad... However, Linc promised me that he will try to do something about it yesterday. But since I was on leave, and I forgot to bring it today with me.... I have to wait 'til tomorrow I guess.

cough. cough.

I am not exaggerating inserting those (cough, cough) between this post as I feel like my eyeballs are popping out already because of this cough. The other sad part of this, I always have dry cough. I wanted to take some rest but I don't want to absent myself from the office that long. My admirers will miss me. haha. Kidding. As if.

Ciao. I'd better start working so I can finish early and work on my Project. Have a nice day!

FYI: grace .

FYI: The bigger malls (Ayala, SM, Gateway, Robonson's) give a grace period of 15 minutes of "parking".  Means your parking is FREE if you will stay in their parking area for 15mins or less.

re-discovering taco bell

When Taco Bell first came in the country (circa 2005?), syempre I trooped to Gateway Mall to sample it.  I think I ordered Taco without everything else heheh, just the ground beef and cheese  (i don't like icky condiments heheh), and so did not like it.

My cousin re-introduced me to TB when we had a date at Trinoma.  I loved their Quesadilla (P129) coz of the cheese and it was served hot.  Also the Nacho Sprinkles (P29) which is a bit spicy but tastes just right.

The Quesadilla is served in 4 pcs. (for sharing, but I can finish one!) and comes in beef, chix and cheese flavor.  BTW, soda drinks (pepsi product) come in 16 oz. single serving (P29); and 24 oz. free refills (P59) no sharing opkors!

Yesterday I was discussing this with Mikoy, that I wanted to buy this one since I'm almost done paying for my cellphone (by Feb) I told Mikoy that I will sell my N6500 slider and my DS Lite + money from mom. Made kontra, that it's still expensive and since we're going to HKG by May, I might find it cheaper there. Fine. hehehe.

Initially, wanted an I-touch but then again, this is rolled into one so opted to get the Iphone instead. Hopefully, by that time I can sell my fone in a reasonable price (yung di ako babaratin)

eBay-ing

Been a member of online auction site eBay Phils for four years.   Naging hobby na to find stuffs on-sale online .  Minsan nga kahit ndi ko kailangan, just because it's cheap e i bid on it.

[caption id="attachment_627" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="perfs!"]perfs![/caption]

Recently, after my holiday closet cleaning, I decided to sell some stuffs na I won't be using na, and dispose of my mini perfume collection.  Parang ayoko na kasi sa kanya e ehheh, the perfs are just stored in the ref, and wala na kaming space para sa ulam! heheh

Anyways,  I tried posting them sa eBay, kaso after 1listing, eBay would not accept my other posts.  Harang naman 'coz I need to register pa pala to Paypal (eBay prefers this para sa payment of items).  Well, no choice but to register.  But then after registering, I need to wait for this 4-digit code they will send thru your bill.   But since the credit card I used has no online site (paging BDO), I have to wait for my snail mail billing statement to arrive, which will take mga 2 months siguro (pramis yung mail/billing sa men arrives mga 3 weeks at the earliest!).  Niweys again, will try calling their hotline, baka naman ibigay sa ken ang billing ng details heheh
